In her Advanced Topics in Design class, Elissa embarked on a project to create a poster for a fictional exhibition showcasing the works of Mies van der Rohe during his American tenure from 1938 to 1967, destined for display at the Museum of Modern Art.
Elissa’s creative journey unfolded through the construction of two distinctive collage pieces, incorporating elements from Rohe’s architectural drawings, his handwriting, and textures inspired by the materials defining his iconic creations, such as marble and wood.
Elissa manipulated the collages in Adobe Illustrator, strategically positioning them within the architectural framework of one of Mies van der Rohe’s Lake Shore Drive towers in Chicago. The prominent green building comes from the rich marble utilized in Rohe’s work, connecting the project to his architectural legacy. Elissa’s artistry transformed the poster into a visual homage to Mies van der Rohe’s American journey, offering viewers a unique perspective on his timeless contributions to modern design.
Elissa embarked on a captivating design journey with Adobe InDesign, crafting a magazine inspired by her book club, creating an enchanting dark academia vibe. This project encompassed several critical components designed to immerse readers in literature and academia.
At the heart of this endeavour was a magazine cover adorned with a custom-made title header resembling hexagonal tiles. In Adobe InDesign, Elissa learned how to create layout design, spacing, and typography to elevate a simple article into a visually engaging narrative.
Elissa crafted a captivating social media poster using Adobe Photoshop, featuring a rock climber in a precarious position high on a cliff. The image conveys a powerful message of overcoming fear with determination. To enhance the visual impact, Elissa overlaid streaks of shooting stars, adding a dynamic element to inspire resilience and courage.
Inspired by graphic designer Morag Myerscough and addressing the issue of literacy rates with the International Literacy Association, Elissa created a striking poster combining bold geometric shapes and a vibrant color palette. Drawing from Myerscough’s style, the poster features bright colors and impactful geometric patterns to draw attention to the critical issue of literacy. Elissa included a compelling statistic highlighting the challenges faced by Canadian literacy rates, aiming to raise awareness and inspire action.
