Elementor was utilized as the primary tool for this capstone project. The project began with developing a comprehensive case study to define the parameters of the fictional client, Oh Fig!, a business-to-business pattern design company needing a portfolio website.
Throughout the development of the Oh Fig! website, Elissa navigated various stages of work, starting with the conceptualization phase involving mood board creation and wireframing in Adobe XD. This was followed by the meticulous crafting of three unique pattern lines in Adobe Illustrator, each reflecting the brand’s retro-inspired aesthetic. Elissa then translated these designs into product mockups using Adobe Photoshop to demonstrate their versatility and real-world application.
The branding phase focused on designing a distinctive logo incorporating a fig into the “Oh Fig!” identity, alongside implementing a simplified colour palette to complement the website’s vibrant content. Wireframes served as a blueprint for integrating design elements and functionality within Elementor during website development. Strategic features like scroll-loading and call-to-action buttons were implemented to optimize user experience, complemented by SEO plugins for enhanced visibility and rigorous quality assurance testing for cross-browser compatibility and accessibility.

Elissa developed the “Remind Me” app as part of a UI/UX design class. The project aimed to provide practical solutions for managing household tasks within families. It involved comprehensive development stages, including competitive analysis, research, and the creation of user personas to inform the design process.
Elissa started by conducting thorough competitive analysis and research to understand existing solutions and user preferences. This groundwork guided the creation of user personas and informed the app’s design to ensure it met the needs of its target audience.
Extensive user testing and feedback were integral parts of the process, leading to the creation of high-fidelity wireframes and functional mock-ups using Adobe XD. The iterative design process driven by user insights resulted in a final product that effectively addressed the challenges families face managing household tasks, highlighting the importance of user-centred design principles and iterative prototyping in UI/UX projects.
For this web development project, Elissa delved into WordPress and harnessed the capabilities of Elementor. The objective was to create a dynamic and informative website tailored to the unique needs of her mother, Heather Willms, a Reading Coach Specialist. Heather sought an online platform to showcase her expertise, highlighting her book and offering a convenient means for teachers to inquire about her workshops.
The resulting website is a multi-page portfolio-style platform that reflects Elissa’s branding and design prowess. By leveraging Elementor’s features, Elissa crafted a visually engaging and user-friendly website that effectively communicates Heather’s offerings and expertise to a broader audience. Heather has successfully used the website to book workshops for over a year.
